Detail from 'Eccles Remembrance' by Robert Lever
Eccles Community Art Gallery first opened its doors in a longterm disused shop unit in Eccles town centre in November 2008. It started as a one woman project, but is now a thriving fully constituted not-for-personal-profit Community Interest Group.
The gallery does not receive any external funding and is staffed entirely by artists and volunteers, giving the public a superb opportunity to interact with the artists and for the artists to get direct feedback about their work.
We present work by local artists, and consequently the work often has a local theme or interest. We cover just about any media and subject imaginable
By creating a vibrant, interesting and sometimes challenging space we aim to increase footfall into the town centre, thereby improving the general feel and outlook of the shopping centre in Eccles.
We also aim to provide a hub whereby different community groups can come together and interact, creating new and exciting projects.
We act as a springboard for young/new artists to take the plunge and move on with their artistic career.
We have had over 4600 visits, and exhibited work by over 60 local artists.
We are looking for help from people with various skills:
1) As you can see I need someone to help update and manage the website and make it look more zingy and enticing!
2) We need money! If you have experience of looking for funding and writing grants and are happy to do this for a couple of hours a month we would love to hear from you.
3) We need someone who can come in regularly on a saturday morning to work for a couple of hours in the gallery. Ideally you would help provide continuity between exhibitions and ensure that Gallery policy and behaviour is followed.
If you can help with any of the above please contact ecclescommunityartgallery@yahoo.co.uk
